At the CAHVIO (Ad hoc Committee on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence) meeting which took place 29 June-2 July to discuss the second draft of the Convention, the delegates finally agreed on a new proposal for the scope of the Convention. The scope is now clearly focusing on all forms of violence against women, including domestic violence, which affects women disproportionately.
The next meeting will be on 27– 30 September, where the CAHVIO members will continue their discussion from articles 27.
The EWL Centre on Violence against Women has prepared the ‘EWL updates on the CAHVIO process’ and the EWL Lobbying Kit on the future Council of Europe Convention on Violence against Women. These documents aim at informing EWL members and partners of the recent CAHVIO (Ad Hoc Committee on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence) news and the positions of the Member States, and at allowing them to carry out targeted lobbying in their countries.
The June 2010 ’EWL update’ comprises EWL position on the second draft of the Council of Europe future convention on violence against women, as well as information on content issues to be taken on board by EWL members and partners for their lobbying activities.
