Positive legal reforms, limited real changes
Although improved legislation was put in place, enforcement of these laws remains limited. Awareness regarding violence against women is still very low and in some areas social acceptance of for example honor killings in local communities is stronger than the normative value of news laws introduced.
Mediation through NGOs is often the only possible strategy to improve the situation of women victims of violence.
